I was surprised to discover that this artist had not been recognized with a Daily Deviation before now - an incredible gallery, beautiful works, and this piece is no exception.

The vibrant, yet earthy colours of the image stick out on the screen. The colour harmony is flawless and each shade compliments the others. There's enough contrast to give the strong shapes a certain firmness, but it isn't the whole point. I love how the artist has combined the curving edges of the instrument with a rough, natural leaf that seems to fit right in on the wooden surface. The instrument alone is already an interesting object - not only because of all the emotions music can convey, but also because of the contrast of the round shapes with some extremely straight lines. The atmosphere is completed with one more texture, namely that of the fabric underneath the instrument. Bringing together so many different, rich materials creates an air of luxury and fascination.
From the placing of the leaf to the angle of the instrument and direction of the straight lines, the composition looks so well thought out that I have nothing to critique on there. Technically the photo is also superb, if you excuse the slight grain in the upper part like I do, as it fits into the feeling of sensing something graciously old and cherished. The focus is right where it should be, on the leaf, leaving other parts calmly blurred. I find the light to be very suitable for this shot, not too dark or too bright. Clearly a well-planned piece of art!
